In order to experience success in any work that you do – whether at home, in a home office, or at work – it is necessary to hone your organizational skills. Without an organized space and good habits, completing tasks may be more difficult and time consuming. Life has become far busier in recent years, and maximizing the time you have to get tasks done quickly and efficiently is a real asset to a less stressful life. Organization comes in many ways; from badge clips to HID access cards and other ID accessories to re-designing the layout of office furniture. Let’s look at a few ways you can gain more organization; these tips may work at home as well as at the office.
Just about every office space can be more orderly. Even if you have set up bins and trays to hold papers; shelves to hold files and books, revisiting organization pays off immediately. To begin assessing your office space, start at the door. Standing back from everything, you get a bird’s eye view of any obstacles that may prevent efficiency. If there is furniture in your office, evaluate the set up. Do you have to climb past tables or chairs to get to your desk? Ideally, you will have a straight path from the door to your desk.
Standing away from your desk, you can also determine what objects need to go where. Looking at all objects on your desktop, note which you use daily and which you use less frequently. Those objects that are not used on a daily basis may be moved to another spot in the office, eliminating clutter from the area where you spend the most time. Place objects based on how often you use them. For instance, perhaps that hole punch is only used every week or two. This tool could be placed on a file cabinet across the room. The stapler that you use every day should stay put right where it is, or be placed into an organizer inside of the desk drawer.
Badge clips provide a necessary function for most employees these days. In fact, accessories like badge clips and lanyards – which you would normally see with something like an HID access card – are even useful at home for a variety of functions. At work, any employee who is required to show identification throughout the day should have their badge secured on a badge holder. Badge clips may be clipped onto clothing or worn around the neck, attached to a lanyard. ID accessories are not only useful for securing an HID access card or other identification; but they are also now very fashionable. Lanyards and badge clips, in particular, have turned the corner into fashion accessory world in recent years. Instead of wearing that standard metal and plastic badge holder, take your ID accessories to a whole new level and don decorative items that show off your personality and improve your professional image.
Gaining order in your professional life doesn’t require that an entire day be spent emptying desk drawers and installing file cabinets. That is, unless your office is a pile of papers. With a few tips such as those mentioned here, you can become more effective right away.
