Evidence from Glenigan, construction information specialists and the UK’s largest national database of Construction companies , suggests that the Kier Group is still among the list of the most successful contractors in the UK in regard to winning new contracts by both value and number of contracts.
Jumping up from fifth place to second in Glenigan’s league table Kier are a strong contender in taking the top UK contractor title. This is thanks to Kier winning 198 new UK contracts at a value of £1,962 million from Jan-Aug 2011. This is a jump from the previous year when Kier totalled 196 new projects worth over £1,308 million.
The winner of the top UK contractor from construction specialist Glenigan was Laing O’Rourke whose new projects totalled an impressive £2,171 during the year up to August 2011. In August alone Kier was already entering the top five at position four with 14 new contracts worth a total £72.5 million.
Contrasting to the rest of the building contractors market Kier performed successfully, as the overall Glenigan index reported an 8% decline in July compared to July 2010. This is due to public and private sector new project starts beginning to slow down.
Kier has secured 86% of its targeted revenue as new infrastructure work is expected to generate a high volume of work for Kier in the short to medium term. Kier’s core targeted building tenders fall in the power and water construction sector.
